Adolfo "Shabba-Doo" Quinones - who had worked with big names like Madonna, Lionel Richie and Luther Vandross - died just a day after testing negative for Covid-19, though his cause of death is as yet unknown.
There are also no signs of foul play as of Wednesday afternoon.
Singer and choreographer Toni Basil confirmed the sad news on Twitter, writing: "It is with extreme sadness The Lockers family announces the unexpected passing of our beloved Adolfo Shabba-doo Quinones.
In a post on his Facebook page yesterday morning, Adolfo shared an upbeat message telling fans that he'd tested negative for coronavirus.
"Good news y'all!" he wrote, "I'm feeling all better just a wee bit sluggish from my cold, but the good news is I’m Covid 19 negative! Woo hoo!!!
"I awoke this morning to a gift from my pal, George 'DJ 360' Jett! Thanks man! Anyway, I'm excited lots of catching up to do. Let's gooo! Thank you to everyone for your kind, sweet, and loving get well wishes and thoughts.
"Oh, I didn't sleep in my beanie and glasses, lol, I donned them cause my vanity kicked in and didn't want you to see my bed head, and crusty eyes, haha... Have a great day peeps."
Adolfo had worked as a choreographer as well as a dancer, working with the likes of Lionel Richie, Madonna and Luther Vandross.
