Another Nigerian father arrested for raping teen daughter in Ado-Ekiti

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday, remanded one Basiru Adeyanju in prison custody for allegedly r-ping his 17-year-old daughter.

Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde, after listening to the argument of the concerned parties, ordered that the suspect be remanded in prison and adjourned the matter till October 2, 2019, for further hearing.

Adeyanju, a resident of Irona in Ado Ekiti, who was alleged to have molested his teenage daughter on September 10, 2017, is facing two counts of r-pe and attempted r-pe.

The offences were said to contravene Section 358 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C16, Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Ekiti State Attorney General, Olawale Fapohunda, who led the legal team from the Ministry of Justice to prosecute the case, called three witnesses, including a medical practitioner, Dr Temitope Olasende, who testified that the victim was truly r-ped.

Olasende informed the court that the victim was brought to him after the alleged defilement on September 11, 2017, and “the medical history and investigation on her showed that she had been with her father since two years after her parents got separated.”

The medical expert further told the court that the medical report revealed the victim’s outer vagina was bruised, but she tested negative to the HIV.

Court also tells Federal Government to take over Diezani’s Port Harcourt land

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered that a plot of land in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, belonging to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Justice Chuka Obiozor made the forfeiture order following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The anti-graft agency told the judge that the land, “measuring 7,903.71 – 8,029.585 square metres” and designated as Plot 9, Azikiwe Road, Old GRA (UAC Property on Forces Avenue), Port Harcourt, was reasonably suspected to part of the  proceeds of unlawful activities.

The commission prayed the court for an order to allow it “to appoint a competent person or firm to manage the asset/property.”

It urged the court to prohibit “any disposal, conveyance, mortgage, lease, sale or alienation or otherwise of the asset/property.”

Counsel for the EFCC, Ebuka Okongwu, argued that the judge had the power, pursuant to Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006, to make the forfeiture order.

After listening to the lawyer, Justice Obiozor granted the forfeiture order as prayed by the lawyer.
On Friday, the same Federal High Court ordered the forfeiture of 2,149 pieces of jewellery and a customised gold iPhone, valued at $40m, belonging to Diezani.

Sniper must be banned, Senate urges FG

The Senate on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to ban the production, importation or circulation of sniper insecticide, a product currently used to commit suicide.

This followed a motion sponsored by Sen. Theodore Orji (PDP-Abia) and 15 others on the rising incidence of suicides among Nigerians.

Orji, while making his presentation noted with grave concern, the rising cases of suicide ,particularly among young Nigerians.

He said suicide could be prevented particularly when family, friends and close relatives of the person contemplating suicide provided support, either by way of encouragement, listening to them or removing means of committing suicide such as dangerous drugs and chemicals especially sniper.

He also said that it is worrisome that the number of Nigerians taking their lives had assumed a frightening dimension , saying that government, religious institutions and other relevant corporate bodies have not addressed the ugly situation in the country.

Orji said that there is need to create awareness on how to control stress and depression by government, religious institutions and other relevant corporate bodies and the establishment of trauma centres across the federation.

This, he said would also reduce the rate of suicide in the country.

Instagram to introduce features to counter bullying

Instagram will introduce new features aimed at curbing online bullying, the Facebook-owned platform announced Monday, as social media giants face increased scrutiny over the harassment faced by many users.

There have been growing calls around the world for greater oversight of platforms like Facebook and Twitter, amid widespread criticism over bullying, as well as the spread of hate speech and fake news.

Instagram, which has more than a billion users worldwide, is a platform focused on images, allowing users to post photos and videos, which can then be commented on by other users.

The company said it has used artificial intelligence to monitor bullying and harmful content for years, and will now use the technology to detect when a user is about to post something offensive and issue a warning.

Little did she know her mother Kathleen Senior, 82, had another child, Jean, now 68, she gave up when she was six-months-old.

Jean has also spent a lifetime wondering what happened to her mother, having been abandoned by her adoptive mum too.

John Mikel Obi has vowed to make his last Africa Cup of Nations one to remember for Nigeria and believes his presence in the squad could be a crucial factor in their bid for success.

The midfielder, 32, concedes this will certainly be his last appearance on the continental showpiece event and possibly for his country.

"It's been an amazing ride for me in the national team," Mikel told BBC Sport.

"Thirteen years I think is enough. I've won trophies, I've had a lot of amazing time. I think it's time for these young guys to carry on.

"I'm mostly here in Egypt to support the young guys and make sure they're on the right track.

"I think my presence is always important for them, hopefully I can finish with the trophy."

Mikel has won a total of 89 caps for Nigeria, playing for them in the past two World Cups and helping the Super Eagles win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

He also helped Nigeria finish third at the 2006 and 2010 Nations Cups.

Wendy Williams dumps younger lover for older doctor

Everything was nice and fun with her 27-year-old ex-felon boyfriend but Wendy Williams decided to move on to somebody that can provide for her in every way she needs. When she was just trying to mess around, she opted for a younger gentleman but now that she's ready to build a meaningful connection with a man again, she found somebody closer to her age to grow with, which she revealed during her comeback talk show episode yesterday.

The famed television host has been dealing with a lot of personal drama this year, which began when her husband of over twenty years, Kevin Hunter, was revealed to have fathered a child with his mistress.

Since then, Wendy has been open about their pending divorce, spending time with her son and also seeing many men as she looks for "the one." It turns out that she may have actually found somebody to spend her days with, telling her studio audience recently that she's got a new boyfriend.

The former radio personality is dating a doctor in his fifties, and she's head-over-heels for him right now.

Hear her; "I’m not on the market anymore. I’m not in love. I don’t know how I’m doing. I’m not in love but there’s somebody that I’m crazy about," said Wendy.

"It’s not who you think. OK? Mother doesn’t deal with children, but it just so happens that I guess with my charm and wit, I attract people of all ages. 27-year-old boys, quite frankly, find me attractive.

I get it, but when it comes time for the comfort of a man, I need someone in his 50s, too, and he’s gotta work. It helps that he’s a doctor. He’s been married. His kids are in their 20s, and yes, he’s black. He’s brown-black."

Williams shared further details about her new man, saying that he's from Los Angeles and only visited New York for the first time recently to see her. Good for Wendy. Hopefully, she's able to make it work!!!

Meghan Markle in talks with Vogue to have a regular column in both the magazine's US and UK editions

Meghan Markle is in talks with Vogue to have a regular column in both the magazine's US and UK editions focusing on her charity work, after Amal Clooney 'encouraged Duchess to promote her philanthropy projects'

Sources close to the talks say the monthly feature would be similar to the article being put together to accompany her upcoming photoshoot for the publication's September issue in the UK.

But Meghan will not appear on the cover of the magazine due to her reported desire for the story to focus on women’s empowerment instead of her.

And, in a further sign that the new mother favors media based in her native US, both the imminent photoshoot and her putative columns are slated to run in American as well as British Vogue.
