How I Was Tricked To Ghana & Sold Into Pros-titution For N150,000 – Nigerian Girl opens up

There was a pin-drop silence in the room where only five of us sat; two men and three women. One of the women was her aunt who also doubles as her mother from age three when she lost her biological mother and the second woman is her elder sister who was 11 years old when their mother died.

Her three-year-old daughter strolled into the living room crying. It was her cry that broke the silence, but she was quickly returned to another room where other people around kept her busy to prevent her from disturbing her 18-year-year mother.

All this while, the centre of attraction, Oveze, had yet to speak. Her mood was pensive as she struggled to hold back tears which had welled up in her eyes. She stared into empty space with her chin resting on her two hands as she appeared to be unconscious of her environment.

Suddenly, tears dropped on her palms and that seemed to jolt her to reality. She quickly wiped it away and lifted her head. Finally, she found her voice and in a low tone she began the story of how her close friend and classmate in primary school whom she identified as Bose Monday took her to a woman in Ilesa, Osun State, who allegedly trafficked her to Ghana alongside 100 other girls.

She said the woman promised them they would earn N30,000 each monthly serving as dishwashers but later sold each of them into slavery for N150,000.

Prior to the incident, Oveze’s sister, Deborah, said Oveze behaved stubbornly in the house.

She said, “She used to leave the house for three days or a week with her friend, Bose. They were always together. She wouldn’t listen to anybody or obey instructions. She was usually rude.’’

Deborah is the first of the three daughters of her late mother and Oveze is the last child. Saturday Punch gathered that her mother fell sick immediately Oveze was born and for three years, she battled with the sickness before she died.

Oveze’s mother gave birth to her amid a pregnancy shrouded in controversy as no one could tell who was responsible except the mother who said she would reveal the man after she gave birth.

"But she couldn’t because immediately my sister was delivered of the baby she became unconscious. She had mental illness and we took her to a home in Lagos for care. It was while she was in the home in Lagos that she got pregnant and we didn’t know who owned the pregnancy. She told us she knew the man responsible for her pregnancy when we asked her and promised to tell us when she was delivered of the baby. Unfortunately, my sister became unconscious immediately after delivery and never recovered until her death about three years later
," said Mrs Felicia Okomayin, younger sister to Oveze’s mother.

Saturday Punch gathered that Oveze lived with Okomayin until her maternal grandmother decided to take her in with her in memory of her late daughter.

Deborah said, “That was the beginning of all her bad habits. My aunt has been a mother to us since my mother’s death but Oveze decided to behave differently.”

Oveze narrated that the story of her unfortunate exploit to Ghana began with a journey to Ilesa, Osun State, from Igarra, Edo State.

She said, “It was one of my friends, Monday, who told me that after leaving Nigeria, we could earn about N30,000 monthly as dishwashers if we got someone to engage us.

“I agreed and we left Edo State the following day for Ilesa, Osun State. When we got to Ilesa, she took me to a madam who told us that she would take us to Ghana where we would earn N30,000 monthly as dishwashers in Ghana.

"The day we met the woman, I saw other girls. We were over 100. We went to Ghana by road in a luxury bus. When we got to Ghana, I was handed over to a woman and another person took my friend.

“It was when I got to her house (in Ghana) that the woman whom I later identified as Madam Faith asked if I was told what I was there for. I said I wasn’t told then she told me I was there for pros-titution. She said men would be sleeping with me for money. She explained that I would pay her one million cedis. When I heard that men would be sleeping with me, I started crying. I told her I wanted to return home. But she told me I couldn’t because she bought me from the woman for N150,000.

"She told me to rest for that day so I could start work the following day. The following day, she said I should be seducing men to sleep with me. I said I couldn’t do that. The place was not a hotel but a slum in Ghana. On the third day, I ran away from the house. I did not know where I ran to. I just kept moving away from the neighbourhood.

"I met a man who accommodated me and I stayed with him for some days until Madam Faith discovered where I was because the place was not far away.

"She came to pick me from there and handed me over to another woman who took me to Cote D’lvoire. When we got to Cote D’lvoire, the woman told me I would pay her the balance of N1m. I said I cannot pay her because I had no such money. Meanwhile, I was made to work as a pros-titute and making a daily contribution. It was the contribution I withdrew and ran back to Ghana. I could have returned to Nigeria but the money was not enough for my transport fare to Nigeria.”

Oveze said when she got to Ghana she saw a man as she was wandering around a ghetto and narrated her ordeal to him. She said the man also took her in with him and started sleeping with her. She added that Madam Faith later saw her with the man and noticed that she was pregnant.

“She attempted to abort the pregnancy for me but the doctor she contacted said he wouldn’t want to abort pregnancy for Nigerian girls and advised her to return me to Nigeria.

"That day, a man known to her wanted to have s*x with me and was kissing me. I slapped him and Madam Faith slapped me back and we started fighting. There was a man selling clothes in the area named Mustapha, who asked me what happened later and I explained everything to him. He then promised to take me back to Nigeria the following week. That was how I escaped from Ghana.”

Landlord Who Has 18 Houses Asks Tenants To Stop Paying Rent Due To Coronavirus Hardship

Some humans are special. Mario Salerno, who has 18 apartment buildings in New York, has surprised his over 200 tenants by asking them not to stress about paying their monthly rent this April, following the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on their sources of income.

Just a few days after losing his job in March, a tenant Paul Gentile was throwing away trash outside his Brooklyn apartment building when he noticed a new sign hanging near the front door;

Many are excited about the gesture. Mr. Salerno said in an interview with journalists on Thursday that he did not care about losing his rental income in April, nor did he care to calculate the amount that he would not be collecting from his 80 apartments. He said he had about 200 to 300 tenants in total, but he feels concerned about people's plight and wants everyone to be ok this period.

Married Woman Drops Shocker: "I’ve no regrets killing my husband's mother"

The entire Abena community in Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, is in mourning mood since a housewife,

Rosemary Osegba Chem, hacked her mother-in-law, Mrs Ashi Chem, to death over the latter’s alleged undue interference in the former’s marriage.

Sensing that her marriage to Mr Abaagu Chem was on the verge of collapse on account of her mother-in-law’s undue influence, Rosemary decided that the only way to save her marriage was to kill her mother-in-law.

Rosemary had got married to Chem, a farmer and petty trader, in February 2016, but the marriage was yet to produce a child. Now 43 years old, Mr. Chem, the only son of his parents, had lost his father when he was only 18 years old.

Chem’s mother was said not to have hidden her objection to her son’s marriage with Rosemary from day one. Although Chem was madly in love with his heartthrob, his mother allegedly swore never to allow the marriage to work.

Since Chem defied her mother to marry Rosemary, there has been no love lost between his wife and his mother. Every petty matter was easily amplified into a major issue, resulting in a quarrel and physical combat in many cases.

In the circumstance, Chem’s mother allegedly mounted pressure on her son to take another wife, describing Rosemary as a witch because of her inability to give birth to a child three years after she got married to Chem. She also allegedly threatened to curse her son if he failed to end his union with Rosemary.

The pressure was said to have become so much that Chem was beginning to yield to his mother’s bidding. Faced with the grim reality of losing her marriage, Rosemary fetched an axe in the early hours of Saturday, March 18, 2020, walked into her mother-in-law’s room and hacked her to death in her asleep.

The Nation correspondent, who visited Abena community immediately he learnt about the incident, met the old woman in a pool of blood.

‘Why I killed her’
Asked why she decided to take her mother-in-law’s life, Rosemary said the deceased woman was a threat to her marriage. She narrated how her mother-in-law called her names and wanted to chase her out of her matrimonial home simply because she was yet to give birth to a child after three years.

She said: “My mother-in-law made life unbearable for me because I could not bear a child for her son. It has been hell for me from day one of this marriage. My mother-in-law did everything humanly possible for me to leave the marriage.

"She always swore that if indeed she was my husband’s mother, she would not allow the marriage to work. I did everything humanly possible to appease her, but it was all to no avail.”

“She insisted that I must leave the house and that her son must get married to another girl. True to her threats, she went as far as getting another girl for my husband.

“I also blame my husband for telling his mother everything about our private matters, including s*x, finance and other issues. My husband always complained that I refused him s*x most times, even though I told him that I’m not the type that likes to have s*x all the time.

“I don’t have s*xual feelings like other women because I was circumcised. But I told him I loved him. We had s*x only once in a week, but he couldn’t bear it, and he told his mother who had already developed hatred for me about it.

“My husband decided to focus his attention on the new girlfriend his mother brought for him. Most times, the girl would spend a whole week in my mother-in-law’s apartment with the consent of my husband.  When I could no longer bear it, I took the decision to eliminate her so that I can save my marriage.

“I still love my husband and cannot afford to share him with anybody. It is God that gives children. I strongly believe that one day, I will also take in and deliver. It is all in God’s hands.

“She accused me openly of cheating on her son by calling me all sorts of names, which is embarrassing to me. I was ashamed of myself even moving around. I don’t know what I did to her. The trauma and intimidation became unbearable for me, so I was forced to kill her before she would disgrace me out of my husband’s house.

“My parents are no longer alive. If she gets me out of this marriage, where will I go? Ordinarily, I don’t have much problem with my husband. We always have a way of settling our issues. But her interference was overbearing.

“In the midst of these, my husband, who used to love me so much suddenly changed and was completely obeying his mom’s directives and I watched him sleep with the proposed girl by his mother, it was clear that he does not have feelings for me anymore.

I took the decision (to kill her) because I was ready for the worst. The marriage had become boring and characterized by crisis, courtesy of my mother in law.

“At a point, it became obvious to me that the marriage had irretrievably broken up. I suggested to my husband that since he was convinced by what his mother was telling him, he should let us call it over and I would move on, but he refused. So I concluded that killing her would stabilise my marriage and restore my happiness.

“I hatched the plan for some time but only made up my mind to execute it today.”

Why I yielded to my mother’s promptings —Husband
Rosemary insisted that she had no regrets whatsoever for her action and was prepared for the worst, adding that she had not known peace since she got married to Chem.

But Chem, who looked so confused over the turn of events, told our correspondent that he loved his mum a lot. “She taught me to be the man that I am today—strong, kind and someone who believed in giving a second chance.

“When my father died, things were not easy, but this woman stood by me to survive the trauma.

“I am really hurt and traumatised by the violent and horrifying act she committed.

“My mother was compassionate and caring. Never did I doubt her unconditional love for me. She had taught me to dream and ultimately to live unselfishly.

“My mother was not wicked or cold-blooded as my wife is painting her. I used to tell her to be calm, but she refused. What does she want me to do? To fight my mother who gave birth to me?

“Now that she has killed my mother, she will be the one to tell me what she wants, and at the appropriate time, I will battle it out with her. I won’t take it lightly.”

Lagos Cult Boys Strike Despite Lockdown, Kill Three Persons

Amid lockdown occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic, residents of Aiyetoro community in Ajegunle, in the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State are living in fear of hoodlums popularly known as Awala Boys.

The thugs who belong to different factional groups have reportedly been terrorising residents and passersby since 2018, dispossessing them of phones, cash and other valuables.

Their operations recently led to the death of three persons – a photographer and secretary of a security committee in Aiyetoro, Peter Edogbei, one Daniel aka Warrior and Moshood aka Alegba – while many others, including a traditional ruler (otherwise known as baale), were injured

Saturday Punch learnt the traditional ruler, Baale of Oke-Ira (also in Ajegunle), Taiwo Olayeni, Edogbeji and other community leaders, were returning from a meeting held at Ajeromi Plaza on Tuesday, March 24, when they ran into the hoodlums on Okoya Bridge, Aiyetoro, around 7pm.

A fight reportedly ensued between two factions of the Awala Boys that day over which group should operate at certain locations in the community.

During the clash, they robbed passersby and attacked them with cutlasses. Edogbeji, 43, died at a hospital the next day from injuries he sustained.

The fight resumed last Sunday when a faction of Awala Boys stormed Tuncarino Street to operate but were resisted. Warrior and Alegba were reportedly killed in the mayhem.

It was gathered that the Awala Boys belong to different cult groups, Eye and Aiye confraternities, which worsen their rivalry.

Chairman, Aiyetoro Community Development Association, Mr Lukman Akande, told our correspondent who visited the neighbourhhood on Tuesday that the thugs had become a huge burden to the community.

He said the activities of the gangs festered because the police were initially indifferent to complaints lodged by residents.

He stated, “The major challenge we are facing in Aiyetoro and Ajegunle at large are the hoodlums called Awalas. Before now, when we went to police stations to report them, some policemen would say they were not thieves. That was in 2018. They later graduated to notorious thieves. At times, when they were operating and we reported to the police, they would promise to come but we would not see them until the operation ended.

"On occasions when some of them were arrested, police would insist residents must write statement as witnesses but people were afraid to do so. Eventually, they would be freed and returned to the community.

"They usually operate in groups. They will waylay people on the road around 7pm and collect their phones and other valuables. If they ask for your phone and you don’t give them on time, they will attack you with cutlasses. Some of them carry guns.

“When they enter a street, everyone will start running helter-skelter. Immediately, they collect phones, they will check SIM cards for account numbers of the owners and hack into the accounts.”

Akande explained that the robbers were youths aged between 14 and 20, noting that most of them were not residents.

He said when the attacks became unbearable, landlords and residents came together to seek solutions to the attacks.

“It was in April 2019 when OPMESA came to our aid that we started to have some relief,” he added.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana had confirmed Edogbeji’s death to The PUNCH, stating that a manhunt had been launched for the perpetrators.

Yoruba Singer Salawa Abeni Reveals Who She Suspect Of Leaking Her Private Pics

Popular singer Salawa Abeni became a trending topic online during the week when she released some semi-n*de pictures of herself on Instagram. She did this after an individual identified as Jason had attempted to blackmail her with the photos. Jason had sent her the photos on WhatsApp, threatening to release more to the public if Abeni didn’t pay him.

However, in a bid to thwart his attempts, the musician released the photos herself.

On what gave her the courage to release the pictures herself on social media, Abeni told Saturday Beats,
Firstly, I am not a child. I cannot even recall where that photo was taken. I’m not sure whether I was even in the hospital or with my partner. It must have been taken more than 20 years ago. I’ll be 60 next year and I have spent 46 years on stage, so for anyone to decide to blackmail me in this critical time when the world is on lockdown, battling the coronavirus pandemic; that is bad. So, since the person threatened to release the photo, I decided to ‘help’ him by posting the photo online myself.
“Is nu-dity that sacred? I gave birth four times and I exposed my n*kedness to the doctors and nurses at those times. There was nothing for me to be scared of. I have God and people behind me."

On whether the blackmailer had contacted her after she put the pictures online, the Waka exponent said, “If you were the one, would you have contacted me after what I did? He doesn’t even pick his calls anymore because a lot of people have been calling him. If you call the number, it is identified as ‘Scammer’ by a popular caller identifying App.”

On whether she had made a report to the police, Abeni said, “I have made a complaint to the police and they are working on it at the moment. I am confident that the Nigeria Police will arrest him. Even before I made a formal report to the police, some people had reported the case on my behalf.”

Salawa also said she wasn’t ruling out the fact that an insider could have leaked the photos to the blackmailer. She added, “It is said that if the enemy within does not get one, the one outside cannot get one. We should only pray that God should save us from those watching us that we are not aware of. I am a human being and I am entitled to my privacy.”

The Chinese Coronavirus Specialists Coming To Help Nigeria

The Federal Government has said that 18 Chinese doctors are on their way to Nigeria with medical supplies including ventilators, to assist in overcoming the COVID-19 challenge in our country.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, said this on Friday in Abuja at the fifth joint national briefing of the Presidential Taskforce Force (PTF) on COVID-19.

According to him, a group of Chinese companies working in Nigeria have donated medical supplies to support the country’s fight against COVID-19.

He said the items being expected include commodities like personal protective equipment and ventilators.

“I have been notified of medical supplies from China, courtesy of a group of Chinese companies working here in Nigeria. A special cargo aircraft shall leave Nigeria in a few days to collect the items which include commodities, personal protective equipment and ventilators.

“An 18-man team of Chinese medical experts including doctors, nurses and other medical advisers shall come along with the flight to assist us."

Lecturer Who Demanded 5 Rounds of S*x Released From Prison

A lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Richard Akindele, jailed for sexual harassment has been released from prison after serving a two-year term.

A Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, in 2018 had sentenced Akindele to prison after he pleaded guilty to four counts filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. The Commission had investigated s*xual harassment allegations levelled against the professor by a female student, Monica Osagie.

Justice Maureen Onyetenu, who had to stand down the case two times, before finally giving her judgement, rejected a plea bargain agreed by the parties involved and insisted that the professor must be punished as a warning to higher institution lecturers in the habit of molesting female students.

Justice Onyetenu sentenced Akindele to 24 months imprisonment for asking Osagie for a s*xual benefit and another 24 months jail term for soliciting s*xual benefit from the victim to pass her.

In an audio which went viral online, Akindele was heard demanding five rounds of s*x from Osagie to award her a pass mark in a course she failed.

Efforts to get official comment from the Nigerian Prisons Service on Friday proved abortive but a reliable source at the NPS confirmed Akindele’s release.

“He was released about two weeks ago having completed his jail term,” the source said.

IGP Special Squad Bust Abuja Gang Selling Cocaine

Six suspects dealing in cocaine and rohypnol in the Federal Capital Territory have been arrested by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team.

Cocaine weighing about 15 grams and 300 sachets of rohypnol (popularly called refnol) were said to have been recovered from them.

City Round learnt that the suspects – Jide Akinsanya, 37; Johnson Uche, 45; Apai Idoko, 30; Nnemaka Kalu, 38 and Azubike Kelechi, 40 – were apprehended recently in Abuja and Kaduna State.

It was learnt that the suspects got the supplies from Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State and sold the drugs to miscreants in bits.

In an interview with City Round during the week, Akinsanya, who is married with two kids, said he worked as a furniture maker before he was introduced to drugs by one Lanre.

He said, “I came to Abuja three years ago and used to work at Kugbo area. I started selling drugs two years ago after I met Lanre. He told me some people sent the drugs to him from Lagos through commercial buses.

“We picked up the parcel at Giri and Nyanya areas of Abuja and took it to one Alhaji Yanyah who sells the drugs in bits. We used to supply him 20 to 30 grams every week. After the death of Lanre, I took over and started supplying Alhaji Nyanya. On each supply, I made N50,000. I was arrested recently while making a supply. Alhaji Yanya is presently on the run.”

Uche, who resides in Kurudu area of Abuja, said he used to sell fertilisers to farmers until last year when the business failed. He stated that his wife was pregnant at the time and that mounted pressure on him.

He said, “I used the little money I have to start selling drugs. I was introduced to a dealer at Area 1. I used to buy one gram or two grams and resell in bits. One gram is N11,000 and I realise N3,000 or N4,000 profit.

“I started the business last July and spent most of the money I made from it on my wife’s delivery because she gave birth through surgery. I ran into trouble on February 21, 2020, after a customer called me and asked me to bring cocaine worth N4, 000. I was arrested while delivering the drug.”

Idoko, father of two, who is based in Kaduna, said a man identified as Mike supplied him cocaine from Lagos. He stated that he bought between 20 and 30 grams per order.

Another suspect, Kalu, stated, “A friend, Kelechi, came to me and asked to help him order refnol and I called my contact from Onitsha, known as ND and I demanded five rolls. A roll is N51,000. When it arrived, I sold the drug to Kelechi for N52,000, because I am just trying to help him. It was two weeks ago that police arrested Kelechi and me. I didn’t know that refnol is a restricted drug.”

Family Hides Truth About Father Exposed To Coronavirus Until He Died in Lagos

A 55-year-old man who was admitted to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, has died in the facility.

A reliable source at the tertiary hospital said the man died of COVID-19 complications, without doctors knowing the truth on time.

The source said the hospital discovered that the patient had COVID-19 after he tested positive for the virus when a Polymerase Chain Reaction test was done on his blood posthumously.

“Fingerprint antibody test was done on him, confirming his COVID-19 infection,” Punch source said.

According to the source, the man, a 55-year-old hypertensive and diabetic patient had presented to LUTH’s emergency unit on Thursday night with “malaise, tremors, and fever.”

He was also diagnosed with acute chronic kidney disease and sepsis.

The source, a caregiver, said the man did not disclose his travel history and had died “a few hours” after his admission to the Federal Government-owned facility.

“The man did not give his travel history or the fact that he had contact with someone who had travelled overseas.

“When asked, he told the doctors that he had no history of coughs, sore throat, joint pains or diarrhoea".

The caregiver said when the patient arrived at LUTH on Thursday night, he was sent to the “spillover unit” because the hospital had run out of bed spaces.

However, when he developed complications, a junior doctor (Reg) at the Accident & Emergency Unit reviewed his case and notified the Senior Registrar of his suspicion.

“After the Senior Registrar reviewed his case and confronted him with their findings, the man revealed the true story about his travels and his fear that he might have contracted COVID-19 but he died shortly afterwards.

“He confessed that he had been coughing and that he had returned from Holland two weeks ago, where he had gone for follow-up treatment after a renal transplant he also had there.
“When confronted after the man’s death, his family members said they withheld the information about his likely COVID-19 infection because they were afraid that LUTH would reject him if they disclosed his true state,”
The man died early Friday morning, and the Lagos State coronavirus emergency workers were invited to take away his body.

South Africa rolls out mobile testing in virus lockdown

South African public healthcare workers dispersed into the buzzing streets of Johannesburg's Yeoville neighbourhood on Friday as Africa's worst virus-hit country rolled out mass door-to-door testing for COVID-19.

Armed with screening questionnaires and testing kits, medics and volunteers set up their testing station on the front porch of a block of flats in the gritty business neighbourhood.

Nurse Xola Dlomo told AFP they were asking one resident to mobilise fellow flat dwellers to come for screening and tests.

"They've been coming for screening and they are even open to testing if they have symptoms," Dlomo said.

Already in a 21-day lockdown, South Africa is now embarking on the widespread testing and quarantine campaign involving some 10,000 field workers who are being sent out into homes in villages, towns and cities to screen for symptoms.

The testing plan to break the chain of infection appears to be modelled on the South Korean strategy which saw the Asian country bring the outbreak under control.

In Yeoville -- a crime-prone area in Johannesburg's hardscrabble central business district -- eight small groups have been dispatched across an area covering one square kilometre.

"The health of our people is our first consideration," said Kegorapetse Ndingandinga, overseeing the Yeoville team.

OAU s,e,x-for-mark lecturer released from prison two years after

A lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Richard Akindele, jailed for se,xu,al harassment has been released from prison after serving a two-year term.

The Cable, an online newspaper, reports that Akindele, a professor of management accounting, was released about two weeks ago.

A Federal High Court in Osogbo, Osun State, in 2018 had sentenced Akindele to prison after he pleaded guilty to four counts filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. The Commission had investigated se,xu,al harassment allegations levelled against the professor by a female student, Monica Osagie.

Justice Maureen Onyetenu, who had to stand down the case two times, before finally giving her judgement, rejected a plea bargain agreed by the parties involved and insisted that the professor must be punished as a warning to higher institution lecturers in the habit of molesting female students.

Justice Onyetenu sentenced Akindele to 24 months imprisonment for asking Osagie for a sexual benefit and another 24 months jail term for soliciting sexual benefit from the victim to pass her.

The judge also sentenced Akindele to 12 months imprisonment for deleting parts of the WhatsApp conversation between him and Osagie to conceal evidence against him and sentenced him to another 12 months for falsification of age.

She held that the jail terms would run concurrently implying that the convict would spend 24 months.

In an audio which went viral online, Akindele was heard demanding five rounds of s,e,x from Osagie to award her a pass mark in a course she failed.

Efforts to get official comment from the Nigerian Prisons Service on Friday proved abortive but a reliable source at the NPS confirmed Akindele’s release.

“He was released about two weeks ago having completed his jail term,” the source said.

Akindele appealed against his conviction and the hearing is scheduled at the Court of Appeal, Akure, Ondo State, on May 19.

Ronaldo becomes football’s first billionaire

Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo will become the third sportsman in the world after golf star Tiger Woods and boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr to have earned $1bn during his career.

The Old Lady announced a massive pay cut to help them during a period with loss of revenue, but it won’t affect the Portuguese superstar too much.

Thanks to the brand that is CR7, he exclusively earned about €100m only in 2019, but in his career, he is expected to reach the $1bn club in 2019-20, even with the three-month pay cut at the Bianconeri.

Only Barcelona star Lionel Messi earned more than Ronaldo last season, but the fact that the 35-year-old has almost played 18 seasons of professional football helps him become the first-ever footballer to reach $1bn during his career.

Business Insider also reports that Roger Federer will become the first billionaire in tennis this year.

Only golf and boxing champions have reached numbers that level of the active players, whilst basketball legend Michael Jordan is the third member currently in the club.

After the death of Lanre, I took over and started supplying Alhaji Nyanya. On each supply, I made N50, 000.

One gram is N11, 000 and I realise N3, 000 or N4, 000 profit.

A roll is N51, 000. When it arrived, I sold the drug to Kelechi for N52, 000, because I am just trying to help him. It was two weeks ago that police arrested Kelechi and me. I didn’t know that refnol is a restricted drug.”

Fifty-five-year-old patient dies of COVID-19 in Lagos

A 55-year-old man who was admitted to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, has died in the facility.

A reliable source at the tertiary hospital said the man died of COVID-19 complications.

The man died early Friday morning, and the Lagos State coronavirus emergency workers took away his body.

When Saturday Punch put a call across to the Lagos State Emergency Helpline for COVID-19, an official at the centre said a similar call had also been placed by someone earlier regarding the incident.

“I got a call in respect of this from somebody in LUTH and we have yet to confirm that.

“We are only at the call centre to receive calls and don’t know what is going on out there,” the officer, who identified himself as Tolani, said.

Asked if it was a LUTH staff member that called the helpline, Tolani said he didn’t know the person’s identity. “I just got a random call,” he said..

Meanwhile, a text message to confirm the development was sent separately to the Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Prof. Chris Bode; and the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi.

Replying to the text message, Prof. Bode Chris said, “Confirm that with the Hon Commissioner of Health, Lagos State.

“He is the only one who gives out details and figures during an epidemic.”

The Health Commissioner had yet to respond to the text message as of the time of filing this report.

When punch correspondent called the Health Commissioner and the Director, Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mr. Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, their individual phones rang out without being answered.

Big Countries Think Nigeria Will Fall To Coronavirus But We'll Prove Them Wrong - SGF

Secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha has called on Nigerians to prove the world wrong on COVID-19.

Mustapha, who is the chairman of the presidential task force on COVID-19, said Nigeria is seen by foreigners as one of the countries that would be crushed by the virus.

At a briefing on Friday, the SGF said Nigerians must wake up to their responsibility by cooperating with law enforcement agencies, especially in compliance with the two-week lockdown directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We need to arise and work as a people to ensure that we have something going for us as a nation,” he said.

“Let’s prove the world wrong on this, because the expectation is that we would crash under this. Major networks of the world are carrying such news items that Nigeria is definitely going to crash under this. But I know the Nigerian spirit that we will overcome this."

S*x Workers Chased From Hotel In Benin Over Fear Of Coronavirus

Many ladies who sell their body for money were on Friday chased out of a hotel at Ugbague area of Benin, Edo State over fear of possible spread of coronavirus in the area.

Speaking with journalists, the owner of the facility, who only gave his name as Osagie, said the eviction became necessary because of the way the virus spreads from person-to-person.

He said there is high possibility that if one of the prostitutes contracted the virus, she will spread it to her colleagues in the brothel.

He said, “I asked the prostitutes occupying my buildings to go home and meet their children and families at their various states because if any man who has the virus meets any of them, they can easily share it among themselves.

“Like me now, I have children and I can’t ask my children not to embrace me and you know that these prostitutes are occupying my buildings and I am the one managing the facilities and so, I asked them to go home and stay with their children until the coronavirus is over."

According to him, it is better to die of hunger than to die of a disease. He said some have gone home and that those still hanging around could not travel to their states due to closure of inter-state borders, lamenting that he has spent his money taking care of them.

“Though a brothel business has not been legalized in the country, I have to help to curtail the spread of the virus by asking them to take a break and go home.”

Funny enough, some of the ladies who refused to answer questions from journalist, told one of them; "them ask you to stay at home, you are still moving around and refused to patronise us.”
